The Pioneers Association of South Australia (Pioneers SA) focuses on the earliest years of settlement in South Australia and their importance to the state’s subsequent development. Membership is open to those who have at least one ancestor who arrived in the Province, now the state, of South Australia, on or before 28th December 1846.

Because most of the 700 or so Pioneers SA members are descended from those who were living in the state during the earliest years of colonisation, they have family histories with unique connections to that time. The Association recognises that family history research makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the state’s history and encourages exploration of the connections by providing many research opportunities.

Pioneers SA is conveniently located in a spacious office in Adelaide that houses an extensive library and access to a range of research materials. In addition, this website provides collections of information that include early South Australian history, lives of the pioneers, and records of immigrant ships.

The benefits of Association membership are receipt of a quarterly Journal and regular newsletters, plus restricted access to records such as publications and transcripts.
Pioneers SA provides regular events and workshops for both members and guests.

Pioneers SA is proud to have the patronage of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC Governor of South Australia
